Too Many People Today Don’t Know What is Truth

B;lack board with words "truth" and "lies"Standing before Pilate, and prior to being turned over to be crucified, Jesus said to him, “Every one who is of the truth hears My voice” (John 18:38, NASB). Pilate responded, “What is truth?”

I believe Pilate’s question is being echoed by many people in the world today. We have strayed so far from the truth that it is becoming increasingly foreign to us. Our politicians in Washington, by and large, seem to be more concerned about sustaining their partisan ideologies and political careers than they are in standing for the truth. Legitimate news agencies are now being labeled as “fake news” for the sake of convenience. Against this backdrop, people need to know, what is truth?

Truth is not subjective. Truth is not optional. Truth is essential because reality is ALWAYS based on truth. We can deny reality anytime we want to. We can call the reality of something anything other than what it is–to makes us or our followers feel good. But denial or mislabeling does not change reality. Nothing can change reality because reality is ALWAYS the product of truth.

So the question is, what is truth? Jesus says to the Father, “Your word is truth” (John 17:17).  We live in a world that knows increasingly less about truth because we live in a world that has increasingly rejected God. If we want to be anchored in truth, it’s imperative that we stay with the Word of God.
