As Christians, we don’t have to allow sin to dominate our life. Our old nature has been crucified with Christ. On the other hand, our old man can and will raise its ugly head again and again—if we allow him to.
But the Bible advices us to not allow our old man to live again: “Let not sin reign in your mortal body…” (Romans 5:12).
Some Christians rationalize sinful behavior. They say they can’t help themselves. And that they need God to deliver them from themselves. But He has already delivered us from ourselves through His Son. We don’t have to let sin reign in our body. Our old man has been crucified so that we no longer have to serve sin.
“Whatever makes you feel good, do it.” That seems to be the unwritten motto of our extremely sensual world. Sometimes, the lure of sin can seem overwhelming to us. But through Christ, we ALWAYS have what it takes to walk in the Spirit so we don’t fulfill the desires of our flesh.
We were born slaves to sin. But now God has called us to be servants of righteousness. Through it, our lives bring glory to Him. But this life is not incidental to being a Christian. It is a lifestyle we must choose to embrace.
