We live in a turbulent world. Many people express concern about where things may be headed. How can we solve the mega challenges before us? Ultimately, according to the Bible, this world as we know it will cease to exist.
But that does not mean humanity will cease to exist. God has promised us a new and better world. “According to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells,” Peter writes in his second epistle (2 Peter 3:13).
Note that, according to this verse, the new heavens and the new earth are a promise from God who cannot lie. In order for the new to come, the old must first pass away. Nothing we do down here can avert that reality. Also note that the new world God has promised will not only be new but also better. For it will be a place of righteousness.
No matter how ominous things may become on this earth, we should not despair as those who don’t know the Lord. He is still in control, and this world is not our home. We are just passing through. The good news is that God has promised us a new AND better world.
How does this promise from God affect your outlook on this life?
