Life isn’t fair. It can deal bad hands to all of us at one time or another. Some trials cannot be prevented even with the most proactive plans of prevention. The vehicles by which adversities arrive are too many to count or guard against. They may come through caring enough to help someone else, through errors in judgment when intents are good, attacks of our enemy the devil, our own misdeeds, etc.
Since God allows us to be tested at times, there must be some good in them, and there is. Trials offer opportunities for spiritual growth. They press us closer to God. They bring life to certain Scriptures as we are driven to apply them to the test. On the other hand, tests have the potential of being devastating.
Is not our Maker most qualified to be the steward of our tests? Omniscient, He knows our strengths and our weaknesses, and the magnitude of the difference from person to person. Moreover, “God is faithful who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able….” (1 Cor. 10:13).
Nobody knows what the future holds for any of us. That’s one reason we obtain various kinds of insurance: automobile, homeowners, life insurance, etc. But there is one vital kind of insurance that can’t be procured on earth. Only God can insure that the trials of life will be no more than we can we can bear.
