Before I became a Christian, I didn’t know the difference a relationship with God through Jesus Christ made. How could I? I was in spiritual darkness. My world revolved around “me, myself, and I.” But now that I am a Christian, I sometimes think to myself, “How does someone make it through this life without Christ?”
We were not created to be self-sufficient. Times will occur in each of our life when we need someone greater than ourselves we can go to. So the psalmist wrote; “When my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I” (Psalm 61:2).
Note, the psalmist did not say “if” but “when” his heart becomes overwhelmed. Those times in our life are just a matter of time. Many people today are overwhelmed in life because they know not God. Without Him, their help is limited to themselves or other mere mortals. Those of us who are now Christians know what that feels like. We were once where they are in life. In fact, the resulting state of overwhelm is what drove some of us to the Lord.
God is greater than any problem or challenge in life we can have. He promises to never leave nor forsake us. Knowing and truly believing that we have someone greater than ourselves we can go to, we can have peace amidst the storms of life. No one is properly equipped for this life without a genuine relationship with God through Christ.
