“I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord,” the psalmist wrote (Psalm 122:1). The holy city gave him great joy. He said, “Our feet shall stand within thy gates, O Jerusalem” (verse 2). Also, “Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces” (verse 7).
How do you feel when someone says to you, let us go into the house of the Lord? Are you glad as the psalmist said he was? Or do you loathe such an invite? Do you have to push yourself to go to church when that time of the week comes around?
There is no place on earth like the house of the Lord. It should occupy a special place in the heart of every believer. We should look forward to fellowshipping with like-minded believers. We should rejoice to sing awesome songs that exalt God and the name of Jesus. We should desire to hear the preaching of the priceless Word of God. The opportunity to experience God in our midst should cause us to come filled with expectancy.
No, we are not saved by how often we frequent the local church. We can stay home and worship God, if we so choose. But through our relationship with God, we should feel a special connection with the house of the Lord and all the glorious things it represents. We ought to be glad to go there.
