If you pray to God regularly, I am sure you pray about spiritual things and significant issues pertaining to your health or temporal needs. But are there some things that concern you that you tend to not “bother God” with?
A few days ago, I was praying and I mentioned to God about a situation that’s been bugging me. During Hurricane Matthew, 24 feet of my privacy fence were uprooted by the roots from trees in a lot situated between my house and the adjacent main street. The city owns and maintains the lot. The hurricane incident occurred over seven months ago. And the city has yet to address the situation! Somehow, the many out-of-town contractors that came to help with tree removal missed this particular lot, and all of them have long returned to their hometowns. I have been calling since January, and have gotten nothing but the brush-off and empty promises from the City. I won’t go any further and bore you with the details.
Anyway, a few days ago, as I was praying, I mentioned the matter about the lot to God. I asked Him to move mightily in the situation on my behalf. As I was praying, it dawned on me that it was the first time I had prayed to God about the situation. I had made many calls to City Hall, and other departments of the City, trying to resolve the situation in my own strength.
Generally speaking, this was not a spiritual matter. But here is what the Bible says: “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7). The key word here is “all.” God wants us to cast everything upon Him simply because He cares. God cares about everything that concerns us.
Though getting the problem with the adjacent lot resolved is not a spiritual matter, the discipline to cast all our cares upon God is a spiritual matter. If we believe God cares about everything that concerns us, we will earnestly pray to Him about everything that concerns us.
God cares about more than your spiritual growth, directing you on critical matters, or finding the purpose He has for your life. Let us learn to cast all our cares upon Him. This does not mean God will tweak every aspect of your life to perfectly please you. But it does mean you will have the best rendition of life possible.
